The lecturer at the College of Physical Education at the University of Karbala, Dr. Hussein Hassoun, in cooperation with professors from the universities of Kufa and Mosul, issued a new book entitled “The Technical and Mechanical Foundations of Weightlifting.” In a statement to the Media Division, Hassoun explained that this book is an important reference for students and researchers in the field of physical education and sports sciences, especially since weightlifting is a basic subject within the Iraqi university curricula.
He pointed out that the book consists of ten chapters covering several main aspects of the sport of weightlifting, including a historical overview of the origin and development of this sport, in addition to an explanation of the regular lifts, and the general and specific exercises that athletes must train for. The book also addresses the basic physical qualities that a weightlifter must possess.
He added that among other topics that the book addresses are common sports injuries in this sport, nutritional supplements, steroids, and biomechanical analysis of basic movements such as the snatch and the chest lift. The book also provides a guide to organizing tournaments and the laws of weightlifting, making it a valuable tool for both practitioners, coaches and students interested in developing their skills and understanding of the sport.
